Chicago Cubs Fans Soak In World Series Victory

By: Kiersten Ehr
November 10, 2016.

Chicago Cubs fans will forever remember the date November 2, 2016.

Some fans may just make that a new holiday. For the first time since 1908 and having waited 108 years the Cubbies won the World Series. The cursed Chicago Cubs are no more as they absorb the victory of being world champions.

Until last Wednesday, the Cubs only two World Series championships were in 1907 and 1908. As a born and raised Cubs fan, I was used to the Cubs blowing every shot they had in the playoffs and during off season. All Cubs fans can agree that the amount of patience has finally paid off.

Long time Cubs fan Bill Murray said, “I’ve been imagining this for a long time. When the lions at the Art Institute start wearing Cubs hats or Bears helmets you know there’s some sort of magic happening in the city.”

“This is it. This was a long time coming. This is really great,” Murray said.

What some people don’t realize is that this is baseball history not only for the Cubs but for the entire major league baseball operations.

The Chicago Cubs were indeed the preseason favorites to win it all this season. The Cubs won 103 games to take the National League pennant. First the Cubs faced the San Fransisco Giants in the National League Division Series. Next on the Cubs check list was facing the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series to reach the World Series against the Cleveland Indians (Indians still have not won World Series since 1948). What made the World Series so memorable for sports fans was that the Cubs were down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series against the Indians.

In order to win the World Series, Chicago had to win three straight games in a row. Slowly but surely Chicago pulled off an unforgettable 8-7 victory on the road in Cleveland in a five hour game with a 17 minute rain delay.

For as long as I shall live I will never forget the moment that Fox Sports Announcer Joe Buck said, ” The Cubs have finally won it all.”

My Story of being a Cubs fan

For me, I grew up as a native Texan Chicago Cubs fan thanks to my dad who raised me to watch them even when I was a baby. Being a Cubs fan involves having great deal of patience and faith in the team. Now that the Cubs have lifted the hated curse it’s very surreal to know that the Cubs are World Champions. On the night they won I drove back to my parents house from college to watch Game 7 with my dad and mom. The moment the Cubs got the third out to end the game in extra innings the three of us literally jumped up and down and hugged each other in tears of happiness.

My dad and I at a Cubs game at Wrigley Field when I was about eight years old.

There is nothing quite like the bond that sports can bring to families and friends. Witnessing history and following particular teams with people around you is one of the best experiences in life.

Earlier in my blog I mentioned that when it comes to being a sports fan, it does not matter what your religion, political affiliation is or what your beliefs are. All that matters is that sports has the ability to bring wide diverse groups of people together to enjoy a common interest.

Cubs Fans Reception of World Series Victory

* I asked some Cubs fans on my Facebook and Twitter of what the Cubs World Series win means to them.

It was estimated that 5 million people attended the Chicago Cubs parade and rally Friday November 4th, 2016 making it the 7th largest gathering in human history according to Fox 32 Chicago.

I hope that in this blog post I was able to share the Cubs World Series experience with you through the text, pictures and videos. Always remember to have faith in your teams you support through ups and downs. This Cubs victory gives hope to the teams we thought were once a lost cause but… ANYTHING can HAPPEN if you just BELIEVE.

Until The Next Time,

LeBron Keeps Promise And Brings Championship To Cleveland

By: Kiersten Ehr

On June 19th, 2016, history was made and brought to Cleveland, Ohio.

You could say one man was behind it, LeBron James. The “King” of the NBA. If you don’t know who LeBron James is, well you probably haven’t watched any NBA games since 2003 when he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers directly out of high school.

The Gist Of It

The Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Championship defeating the Golden State Warriors 93-89 in Sunday’s  Game 7.

What you should take away from this defeat:

  • No team had ever rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win the NBA finals — until Sunday night (Cavs were the underdog in this series)
  • Cavaliers first championship in franchise history
  • City of Cleveland’s first major sports title since 1964
Screen Shot 2016-06-21 at 4.45.19 PM
Screenshot from Twitter

The “King” At His Best

  • Who will argue that Game 7 wasn’t LeBron’s biggest game of his career?
LeBron James reminded NBA fans that he’s LeBron and he’s currently trying to catch up to Michael Jordan who had six NBA Championships (Chicago Bulls: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998) in his career. LeBron is half way there with three championships.
  • LeBron was named the Finals MVP after scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds, and racking up 11 assists.
According to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver the vote was unanimous. LeBron had his moment while he kissed the court, and shed tears of happiness with his fellow teammates.

    LeBron Back At Home

Just for a quick recap, LeBron James was drafted with the 1st overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003. James stayed in his hometown with the Cavs until 2010 when he decided to sign with Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat organization. In 2010  LeBron faced criticism for leaving the Cavaliers and his hometown of Cleveland. While playing for the Miami Heat he won two NBA Championships back-to-back (2012, 2013).

Cavaliers Came Back For Revenge

  • A year ago the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors were in the same place fighting for the NBA Championship
  • The Warriors had their first title since 1975 as they won in six games (4–2)  in the 2015 Finals over the Cavs (Warriors’ first title in 40 years and their fourth in franchise history)
  • Cavaliers defeated the Warriors in the 2016 Finals despite the fact that Golden State set the record for the most wins in a regular season with a 73-9 record

Scores From 2016 NBA Finals

  • Game 1 – Warriors 104-89 Cavs
  • Game 2- Warriors 110-77 Cavs
  • Game 3- Cavs 120-90 Warriors
  • Game 4- Warriors 108- 97 Cavs
  • Game 5- Cavs 112-97 Warriors
  • Game 6- Cavs 115-101 Warriors
  • Game 7- Cavs 93-89 Warriors (Cleveland won 4-3 in series)

LeBron James reported today prior to the Cavs’ championship parade that he has no plans to leave the Cavaliers.

According to, LeBron James said, “I love it here. I love being here. I love my teammates. I’ve got no plans to go nowhere at this point.”

The Future For LeBron

  • LeBron can become a free agent if he decides to not exercise the one-year, $24 million player’s option in his contract
  • James can decide to decline the option on June 29th to get a raise from the Cavs …James can make $30 million next season under a new contract
  • Free agents can begin negotiating with teams starting July 1st and can sign July 7th

“This is the happiest time in my life right now,” James said.

“Effort, effort, effort. Find a way to get better.”

These are the words that Associate Head Coach-Linebackers Coach John Wiley shouts at the start of spring camp practice to the players who are proving themselves to hopefully be chosen to play during fall season.

Blasting in the background are the lyrics, “Say your prayers little one, don’t forget, my son, to include everyone” from the famous “Enter Sandman” from Metallica, as head coach Everett Withers gave his players a pep talk.

During every practice, Withers gives his players a pep talk along with implanting the values to ensure it becomes a habit in memory on and off the field for the athletes. The core values are honesty, treating women with respect, no weapons, no drugs and no stealing. Welcome to the Everett Withers era of Texas State football ladies and gentlemen.

Success on the field…

Balancing College & Sports Internships

Part One:

I currently work for Spurs Sports & Entertainment as a marketing intern (I help out with the Snap Chat account at @SanAntonioFC as well as taking pictures and videos for the team)for the new USL San Antonio Football Club which is basically owned by the Spurs. This is a soccer team that hopes to become a Major League Soccer team in the future.
~Here are some exclusive pictures that I captured for the San Antonio Football Club. We are very excited that this week is the first game for the regular season, and April 9th will be the home opener at the Toyota Field!

~You can check out the San Antonio Football Club at their website   Twitter @SanAntonioFC   Instagram @SanAntonioFC Snapchat @SanAntonioFC Facebook @San Antonio FC

Part Two:

I have another internship with Time Warner Cable News for the San Antonio location. Part of the internship allows me to attend a wide range of sports events. For example I can go to all the Spurs home games… yes I’m beyond blessed considering they are the Spurs and will most likely be in the NBA Championship series this year.
Here are some Exclusive pictures I have captured this year with TWC News. Enjoy! P.s. I went to the Biggest regular season game in the history of the NBA (Warriors at Spurs 3/19/16). Yes, I will also be going to the NBA playoff games when the Spurs are home (pretty amazing).

I hope you have a GRAND day and don’t forget to watch the Final Four in March Madness this weekend!

*Final 4 is in Houston, Texas at the NRG Stadium (Representing Texas :))
The first game will start at 5:00 p.m. with #2 Villanova Wildcats vs. #2 Oklahoma Sooners, and game 2 will start at 7:50 p.m. featuring the #1 North Carolina Tar Heels vs. #10 Syracuse Orangemen. Both games will be televised on TBS).

Texas State Football Players Give Back To Community On Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2016
By: Kiersten Ehr

For Valentine’s Day this year some of the Texas State football players decided to give back to the community and elderly by stopping by the San Marcos Rehabilitation and Health Care center.

The Texas State football players involved were Gabe Schrade, Kian Scheonborne, Inoke Langi, Jordan Mittie, Willie Williams, Stedman Mayberry, Will Copa, Karee Berry, Jeff Banks, Louis Rubin and Cody Casey.

The residents at the healthcare center were all smiles as the football players danced with them and gave the women roses.

Texas State football player Gabe Schrade organized this event to make a difference for others who might be alone on Valentine’s Day at the healthcare center.

“We organized this to give back to the elderly and people in the nursing home. We wanted to dance with them and give them a fantastic Valentine’s Day,” said Schrade.

Jamie Vanostrom, a resident at the San Marcos Rehabilitation and Health Care center, said that people in nursing homes are often forgotten and that she was very glad the football players came to see them. Vanostrom said, “It made our day.”

Rena Herrera, a nurse at the center, said that it was nice having the Texas State football players volunteer.

“We felt the emotion from all of their years through their hands when we danced.
It was really special not only for them but for us as well.  We definitely got more than we probably gave,” said Schrade.

“I had a great time. This brightened my day, just talking to older people about where they are from and what they like to do. It touched my heart a little bit,” said Cody Casey, a Texas State football player.

The Texas State football players may have delivered Valentines but their hearts were touched today by residents at the San Marcos Rehabilitation and HealthCare Center.

Having Peace With Your Career Path

By: Kiersten Ehr
Jan. 25. 2016

First off I know that since it’s a new year some people may feel anxious, nervous, stressed out if you have a new job, looking for a job, feel too old but still need to work or simply have no idea what you want to do with your life…

I have some helpful advice for you to feel more positive and optimistic about your career path.

Even I admit at first I was anxious to pursue a career in sports broadcasting that consists of mainly men, but you know what I made a name for myself with my strong work ethic, and so can you!

During my orientation at my new internship for Time Warner Cable in Austin, I met the News Director Micheal Pearson who gave incredible advice about keeping humility. Mr. Pearson told the interns he jumped into a new career path from print journalism to broadcast television in San Antonio at about the age of 40.
With no education in mass communication only in journalism, at Texas State (Go Bobcats) Mr. Pearson said that he once  worked a 3 a.m. shift since that was the entry level position at that time.  Having shown humility to work his way up, Mr. Pearson proved himself at the age of 40 when he was up against 20-year- olds. Now Mr. Pearson is the News Director for Time Warner Cable in Austin.
The moral of the story is that people notice when you show humility, initiative and determination to reach your goals.

I encourage all of you to make sure you find a job or career you are absolutely passionate about, because you don’t want to live with regrets of “what ifs” friends.
Even if you have a job that pays less than $10 an hour but you love what you do- then stick with what you love. Money doesn’t equal happiness.

I found these amazing quotes that prove that you should live a life you love.
The famous saying goes, “LOVE WHAT YOU DO.”

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” – Maya Angelou

“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.”

-Steve Jobs

Happy New Year! It’s officially 2016.

I hope that your 2015 was a year full of joy and happiness.

2015 was a year full of new opportunities and transitions in my life.
The most important thing I learned from 2015—

Nothing is ever handed to you— that’s just reality. But you know that YOU CAN ACHIEVE GREATNESS if you have the desire and motivation.

Wishing Everyone A Merry Christmas From Texas

Dec. 25. 2015

Just wanted to wish all my SportsChic followers a very Merry Christmas.

Today’s a day to rest and stay at home away from all the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Even if you’ve had a stressed year, or had heart ache or ups and downs this year…Christmas is that time of the year we can all be thankful for family and friends and most importantly the  birth of the most precious baby boy that was created.

SportsChic is very happy! Santa and family brought all Packer gear for Christmas.

I hope you got what you wanted this Christmas, hopefully you had time to sleep and watch some classic Christmas movies. My favorite is Christmas Vacation… I attached the link to the intro of the movie it’s a classic.

Even though this weather is beyond un-fashion friendly with all our sweaters and scarfs in the closest, at least the majority of the country isn’t freezing their butts off. For example it’s 80 here in south central Texas… Like what is that?!

Word of The Wise: I think EVERYONE should go see Star Wars Force Awakens ASAP. Umm it’s totally brill. The movie has already grossed $363,460,329 in about a week. GO SEE IT and take the family along.

RECAP: Texas State Football Head Coach Dennis Franchione Retires After 40 Years Of Coaching

By: Kiersten Ehr

SAN MARCOS– Texas State University students and alumni awoke to the news Tuesday that football head coach Dennis Franchione will be stepping down from coaching for the Bobcats after the 2015 football season with a record of 3-9.

Photo Credit: Kiersten Ehr- Texas State Head Coach Dennis Franchione pictured with quarterback Tyler Jones 2015.

Franchione emailed the entire Texas State football team that he is retiring from coaching football after his five seasons coaching the Bobcats in San Marcos, Texas.

Career At A Glance

Franchione took over the head coach position for Texas State in 2011 to help with the transition for Texas State, after jumping into new conferences.

Texas State was part of the Division 1-AA Southland Conference 1987-2012, WAC (Western Athletic Conference) Division 1-A 2012-2013,  and then moved in the Sun Belt Conference Division 1 FBS (NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, formerly known as Division I-A, is the top level of college football in the United States).

Coach Fran in his five years had two bowl eligible seasons  with Texas State with an overall 20-28 record for the Bobcats. However, Texas State was not selected for any bowl games.

Through thick and thin, the 2015 season was Franchione’s worst season, record wise, which made the Bobcats end up 10th for the Sun Belt Conference.

Before coming to Texas State, Fran had experience coaching at Texas A&M, Texas Christian University, Alabama, New Mexico, Southwestern College and Pittsburg State.

Franchione coached for a career total of 40 years.

One of only four active coaches with 200 victories.

Fran has a 210-126-2 overall record and even helped set the stepping stones for the successful football careers of NFL potential hall of fame  players Brian Urlacher and LaDainian Tomlinson.

LaDainian Tomlinson

Texas State originally offered Franchione a five year extension contract before the 2013 season began, but with an embarrassing 3-9 season that ended too soon…Fran will now leave Texas State with two years left in his contract which will open the door for a new coach to come in and take over.

A Texas State football player requested anonymously today that he was surprised that Franchione decided to step down.

“When I first heard the news I was shocked. I feel like coach Fran still should be the coach, and with out a doubt he would of gotten the team back on track. Now for far as future hopes for the team( Texas State) I know they will be a good team next year. The team recruited some good players.”
-Texas State football player

The question that all Texas State University students, alumni, fans and staff will ponder is who will be the next head coach for the Texas State University football program and lead us back to a winning season?

Stay Motivated On Your Passion

By: Kiersten Ehr
December 3, 2015

As I take on the role of being your go-to-girl for sports through a female’s perspective, I want to go on a rant about staying on the right track.

Word of the wise

Kiersten Ehr at the Spurs game 12/2/15

Through my sports internship through WOAI News 4/ KABB Fox 29 in San Antonio I have had the opportunity to go to a couple of Spurs home games. I learned that shooting a stand-up is incredibly difficult as a sports reporter. It takes so much time and preparation to nail your perfect speech in front of the camera.

My point is to not give up if a task in front of you seems impossible!

I’m fairly fluent with sports and creating a perfect stand-up sound bite is difficult for me, BUT no one is perfect. We humans mess up but we learn from our mistakes to make us BETTER and more over all well rounded.

The Gist Of It: Even I (SportsChic) don’t have all the answers, but I’m telling you in order to get where you want in life you have to push the boundaries and prove to others in the field you want to pursue that you’re a GO-GETTER.

Go for what you want in life.

The worst that could happen is that you at least tried. I would rather say I tried and made effort rather then sitting back in a recliner when I’m old living in regret.

Make A Goal. Achieve It. Go Above And Beyond.
We Have One Life. Make the Most From It.

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Two Touchdown passes from Quarterback Tyler Jones to Tightend Lawrence White led Texas State over UL-Monroe 16-3 Thursday night to close out Texas State’s home schedule and break a three game losing streak. The Bobcats recognized 27 seniors before the opening kickoff and debuted black jerseys for the fans and a national ESPNU audience.

“The guys loved them,” head coach Dennis Franchione said. “It was a good change up for them and a great surprise for them. I think it got them hyped up a little bit before the game because they didn’t know before they walked into the locker room.”

Texas State moved to 3-7 on the year and 2-4 in the conference.

“It was a good win for the Bobcats,” Franchione said. “I’m proud of the guys and I’m happy for the…

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS– The Texas State football team entered Saturday’s game facing conference opponent Georgia State, who shared their 2-6 record. This was a match-up that could determine who still had any hope of being bowl eligible. Both teams would have to win four games in the row in the second half of the season to be considered for a bowl.

What Happened: Texas State got the wind knocked out of them through the air as the team battled the Panther’s powerhouse offense, ultimately losing 41-19 at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats move on to being 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Georgia State senior quarterback Nick Arbuckle pounced on the Bobcats, having a career night passing for 471 yards and throwing four Panther touchdowns. Arbuckle led the Panthers to a school-record 644 yards, this was the second…

Texas State Struggles With Bowl Eligibility

By: Kiersten Ehr
KTSW-FM 89.9 Sports Reporter

SAN MARCOS—For homecoming weekend with an attendance of 15,241 at Bobcat Stadium, Texas State played with diligence in Saturday’s match-up against New Mexico State, but the Bobcats were unable to win the battle against the Sun Belt Conference’s leading rusher Larry Rose III.

The running back that caught all the attention for New Mexico State, Rose rushed 207 yards and received 87 yards against the Bobcats defense. The Bobcats had three offensive turnovers that helped pave the way for NMS to win 31-21 (NMS 2-7, TXST 2-6).

After New Mexico State’s first win last week 55-38 in overtime over Idaho, Texas State Quarterback Tyler Jones mentioned that the team was aware that the Aggies had some momentum and some highs going into the game against the Bobcats.

“They’re a good team,” said Jones. “I just think they had some better blitzes and stuff at different times than what we expected. It’s understandable, we’re going to have our highs and lows, but they didn’t do anything particular that we just weren’t ready for.”

Jones stood out leading the team in his seventh rushing touchdown this season, the most of his career, and the junior QB finished the night with 287 passing yards.

Damani Alexcee led the team defensively with 12 tackles over the Aggies.

The Bobcats have been struggling with finding the right balance on the field to have another shot at being bowl eligible this season. Alexcee said this is the point in the season that the team has to come together.

“At that at the end of the day, we’re still a team,” said Alexcee. “Everybody that was here together in the beginning of August is still here right now.”

“We just have to look at ourselves in the mirror and ask ourselves, do we really want to finish this season right as a band of brothers?” said Alexcee.

Half-way through the season, Head Coach Dennis Franchione is still determined to make sure his team finds the answer to win in dire situations to pull out with a victory especially on home turf.

“Our team just can’t seem to find a way right now and that’s on me,” Coach Franchione said. “I accept full responsibility for that. We’ve got to find a way for them to find a way. As coaches and myself, we’re struggling doing that right now.”

Positive Texas State Highlights:

Lumi Kaba had a career night making a 66-yard punt and a 59-yarder in the second quarter.

Ryan Carden caught a 48-yard pass for the longest gain of his career.

Robert Lowe had 88 rushing yards.

C.J. Best had 74 receiving yards on six completions.

NEXT GAME: Texas State will be home against Georgia State at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. Last season the Bobcats won the match-up over the Panthers 54-31 in Georgia. To listen to the game tune into KTSW-FM 89.9 to hear Texas State broadcasters Brant Freeman and Bill Cullhane.

WHERE DO THE BOBCATS STAND: There are two more home games at Bobcat Stadium (11/14 & 11/19), then Texas State plays two on the road. If the Bobcats want to reach bowl eligibility the team has to win every game moving forward. Texas State is 1-3 in the Sun Belt Conference and 2-6 overall.

Historic Kick-Six Gives Bobcats Their First Conference Win

FYI: A “Kick-Six” refers to the Alabama vs. Auburn game played on Nov. 30, 2013.

||The game was notable for its ending|| Auburn tied the game 28–28 with 32 seconds remaining. With one second remaining in regulation, Alabama missed a 57-yard field goal. Auburn’s Chris Davis caught the errant kick and returned it 100 yards (under NCAA rules) to the opposite end zone, scoring a touchdown; the runback tied LSU’s Odell Beckham Jr.‘s record-setting 100 yard return that same season.

Gist of It: Auburn made history and returned a missed field goal from Alabama and ran for a 100 yard return for a touchdown in the final second of the game.

Green Bay Packers Smallest Market in NFL With Most Committed Fans in Football

By: Kiersten Ehr

Welcome to Green Bay, Wisconsin

My parents surprised me with a ticket to the home game for the Chargers vs. Packers game on October 18th, 2015 (my early christmas gift). I took tons of pictures and videos so my fans and readers can get a glimpse of what makes the Packers so special.

The Green Bay Packers get more respect as a National Football League franchise than any other professional NFL team in my opinion. Whether you are a Dallas Cowboys fan or a Chicago Bears fan the majority of fans and teams respect the legendary Packers.

SportsChic in the end zone in row 6

The rich history of the Packers includes names such as  head coach Vince Lombardi (1st to win the Super Bowl), Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Brett Favre and now Aaron Rodgers in his prime.

SportsChic with the new Lambeau leap statue

The interesting tidbit about the Packers is that Green Bay has a population of a little over 100,000 with exceptional loyal fans. It is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States.

Keep in mind this is a city of 104,000 people, with a waiting list for Packers’ season tickets of 112,000.

  • According to, the Packers are the only NFL team owned by their fans — 36,000 of them from all around the world own 5 million shares.
  • The money allows the Packers to remain competitive with large-market teams, and most important, to remain in Green Bay. (My dad has been on the wait list for decades and still is waiting for his number to be called for season tickets).
A beautiful sight for all football fans

Packer history

The Packers have won 13 league championships, the most in NFL history, including nine NFL titles prior to the Super Bowl era and four Super Bowl victories—in 1967 (Super Bowl I), 1968 (Super Bowl II), 1997 (Super Bowl XXXI) and 2011 (Super Bowl XLV).

Tailgating in style! A whole garage made into a professional tailgating business

Have you ever heard of professional tailgating?

Well it’s real.
Fans in Green Bay take tailgating to a whole different level— people pay a ton of money to get an all you can eat buffet right before the Packer game. The food was amazing you’re talking about the works (hamburgers, hot dogs, shrimp, meatballs, fruit, cake, brownies, beer on tap, grilled veggies, cheese, cheese, and more cheese).

Now you have a better understanding of why the Green Bay Packers are a well respected franchise and why they have some of the best loyal fans in the world.

10 Reasons Why You Should Date Someone Who Loves Sports

By: Kiersten Ehr

Here are my top ten reasons on why someone should date a sports fan.

  1. Buying gifts just got a whole lot easier. No need to stress about what to buy for special occasions just get his/her favorite team gear and you’re all set.

2. We sports fans won’t ask what a touchdown is or a home-run. Gone are the days when you have to explain all the rules within a sport (we know our stuff).

3. We sports fans LOVE to tailgate and eat food.

4. We sports fans are not afraid of  bad weather. We will watch any game whether rain or shine.

If you’re a sports fan you realize that when you meet somebody, like a girlfriend, they kind of have to root for your team. They don’t have a choice. – Jimmy Fallon

5. We sports fans will probably help you out in the fantasy football league if you are nice to us.

6. We sports fans will fit in with your sports buddies.

7. Going to your favorite game/our favorite game is considered a date (sounds perfect to me).

8. We sports fans will celebrate with you when your team wins.

9.  If you happen to cuss at a crazy play we won’t judge you.

10. It’s simple— dating a sports fan is pretty fantastic.

The Chicago Cubs have NOT won a World Series since 1908.

Yes you heard me right. That’s a difference of 107 years people. That’s nuts.
How do people still call themselves Cubs fans after what some call as a hopeless franchise? It’s simple.

The Cubs are the Cubbies.
The Cubs have such rich history and a reputation that gains respect nationally and internationally.
Yes the Cubs get made fun of for having a “curse” BUT look at them now.
The Cubs are on their way to the NLCS (National League Championship Series. That’s the series before the World Series stretch).

There were plenty of Texas State fans that drove up from San Marcos to watch this epic match-up in Houston, as these two teams haven’t played since 2012, with Texas State winning 30-13.  As I was walking around the tailgates, the Bobcat alumni tent was jam-packed with eager fans. Despite the crushing loss, this game was a great opportunity for all Texas State fans around the state to get together as one to cheer on their Bobcats.

A Texas high school football official, who was blind sided by two players during a game earlier this month, is being accused of using a racial slur towards the players. Officials with the Northside Independent School District said in a news conference they are looking into alleged racist remarks made by the official, Robert Watts.

San Antonio Express News Sports Writer David Hinojosa has been a sports writer since 1992 and says that the saddest part of this whole saga is that is has unfairly cast a black eye on Jay High School, San Antonio and Texas high school football.

Like many others Hinojosa was stunned and in disbelief after watching the video at first glance.

“My first thought was, what possessed two football players to intentionally hurt a referee? To me, that’s the big question that needs to be answered,”…

Keep calm and play fantasy football

By: Kiersten Ehr

Created by Kiersten Ehr

Bring the action.

You can love it or hate it but fantasy football is a whole season in itself. It’s almost unavoidable.

Even if you choose not to join fantasy football you probably know someone who has decided to join and make a league.

There’s something about the National Football League that brings all sports fans together.

Whether you are a soccer fan, baseball fan or just die-hard 100% american football fan— the NFL fantasy league brings wide diverse groups together to make what we so call “our teams” or “our league.”

Don’t take it personal

Fantasy football is all about taking risks and making smart decisions in drafting players.

On draft night some people can get really lucky with first picks or you can be that guy/girl who picks last.

It literally drives me nuts when someone drafts my top players that I had researched before I even have a chance to make a move.

For example, I wanted of course Aaron Rodgers as my quarterback but someone immediately drafted him for the first pick.

*Some friendships may be jeopardized while playing fantasy football.

It’s a competition and not always a friendly competition.

Everyone wants to win with the most fantasy points at the end (especially more intense when teams play for a cash prize).

The League

Call it like it is. It’s a phenomenon.

For those who don’t already know there is a fantasy football show called “The League” that airs on FX.

The show is already in its last and final season after being on for six previous years.

The League involves a group of friends who scheme, prank, trash-talk throughout the fantasy football season.

It’s a great show to see the depths of how important fantasy football is for most people.

“God bless fantasy football. There are many things a man can do with his time… this is better than those things.” –
(Pete from “The League”)

“I absolutely love the energy that comes from a group of friends all fighting over the best pick in fantasy.” —Sportschic

If you’ve been playing fantasy football for years or you’re a newbie I encourage you to stay active and watch all the NFL games you can.

Even if you don’t have a favorite team it’s still fun to make a league and watch games just to keep up with the players you drafted.

I promise you it’ll be worth the dedication.

Remember to keep calm and play fantasy football…it’s just fantasy people.

SAN MARCOS– Texas State University’s very own Brain Guendling has gone viral world wide in his Youtube video ‘College Football Players Perform First Sign Language Concert Ever.”

The music video targets the hearing impaired.  Brian’s background with special needs kids helped set the way for his global sensation that has made it’s way to ESPN, CNN, SI, national and international headlines as well as stardom for Mr. Brian Guendling. Brian’s intentions are pure as his passion is to have concerts for the hearing impaired.

Below is the link to Guendling’s Youtube sensation.

Meet Brian Guendling:

Brian is a junior  at Texas State in San Marcos, Texas where he plays football  (defensive end) for the Bobcats. The Gist of it:  Brian Guendling is a Texas State football player and special needs student (An American hero if you ask me).

When Guendling’s mother was pregnant with Brian she was told he might be mentally challenged since his two uncles, both of which are wheelchair-bound, blind, and mentally challenged. Brian is not mentally challenged but he did not say his first word until he was four years old (was in special education classes up until high school where he struggled with short-term memory and grammar comprehension).

Cool Fact: Brian studied American Sign Language as an elective at a San Diego college during his junior year of high school according to Yahoo.

  • Brian Guendling performed Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk’  on June 19th in sign language at a local San Marcos bar called Nephews with his football teammates as back up dancers

  • Guendling uploaded the video (what he called ‘the first sign language concert ever) to YouTube– as of July 17th the video has over 205,000 views

Mayweather Stripped Of Welterweight Belt Won In Pacquiao Fight

By: Kiersten Ehr

On Monday July 7th, Floyd Mayweather was stripped by the WBO (World Boxing Organization) of the welterweight world title he won by beating rival Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd for what was called “the fight of the century.”

The Mayweather and Pacquiao fight broke all financial records for a boxing match

  • including total gross
  • pay-per-view subscriptions
  • closed circuit revenue
  • live gate
  • foreign television sales and sponsorships.

What happened?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. failed to comply with the WBO’s organization’s rules.

Mayweather failed to meet the 4:30 p.m. ET Friday deadline when he had to pay a $200,000 sanctioning fee from the May 2 fight (Mayweather earned more than $220 million) and vacate the two junior middleweight titles he also holds.

According to ESPN–“The WBO world championship committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title for failing to comply with our WBO regulations of world championship contests,” the WBO wrote Monday in its resolution.

Well Mayweather was given two months to decide if he wanted to hold the titles he won in multiple weight divisions. Usually the WBO allows fighters only 10 days to make a decision…

What the WBO Had to say about Mayweather

“The WBO has the utmost respect for Floyd Mayweather Jr. and all that he has accomplished during his storied career,” the WBO wrote in its resolution. “Mr. Mayweather has always agreed with and understood that world championships have both privileges and responsibilities and that status as WBO champion is subject to and conditioned on compliance with the WBO rules and regulations.”

Mayweahter promotions reaction

“It’s a complete disgrace,” Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told “Floyd will decide what, or if any, actions he will take. But in the meantime he’s enjoying a couple of hundred million he made from his last outing and this has zero impact on anything he does.

“We just made history. I was on a mission,” Lloyd said Monday on “CBS This Morning. “It was just an epic win and we created history.”
“(I) did imagine playing in a World Cup final and scoring four goals or so,” Lloyd said. “It’s amazing what the mind can do and I was just focused and wanted to come here and help my team win in any way I could.”

#USWNT now has three Women’s World Cup titles (1991,1999, 2015)

  • U.S. held a four-goal lead in the first 16 minutes (Lloyd with hat trick)
  • U.S. lost to Japan in 2011 in penalty kicks (This re-match game was a huge opportunity for the U.S. to get a comeback win)
  • First sellout crowd in a Women’s World Cup final
  • Carli Lyold received the Golden Ball (MVP) as player of the tournament (scored twice in about 135 seconds as #USWNT led 2-0 over Japan in fifth minute)
  • Lauren Holiday made an epic U.S. lead 4-0 with a 54 yard shot from midfield!

    {According to VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP)– It was also the fastest hat trick in World Cup history — men or women — and Lloyd became the first American since Michelle Akers in 1991 to score multiple goals in a World Cup final. The only other hat trick in a World Cup final was when England’s Geoff Hurst scored three times against Germany in the men’s 1966 final at Wembley.}
  • Lloyd scored six goals in seven matches during the monthlong tournament, raising her international total to 69.
  • U.S. is 25-1-6 against Japan & a 3-1 advantage in World Cup meeting

But all the top European football clubs compete against each other starting with a group stage. 8 groups consisting of 4 teams play each other twice to get the most points possible to move forward to the final 16. Next the final 16 teams through to the final 4 teams are all two legged games throughout the spring. Then the last two teams battle it out in the final for the trophy and the highest recognition in football.

Breaking News: Understanding The FIFA Investigation

By: Kiersten Ehr

It’s everywhere. ESPN, Sports Illustrated, CNN, Facebook, social media, you name it. The #FIFA is trending like a virus on the internet.

FIFA is the International Federation of the Association Football or International Federation of Soccer) is the international governing body of association football (soccer)

What is happening and why this is IMPORTANT:

  • FIFA organizes the World Cup- basically to be blunt they take the profits from the World Cup and keep it in their deep pockets…
  • The countries that host the World Cup basically don’t see any of the profits- they kind of get used.
  • Get this the President of FIFA is Sapp Blatter (has tenure) (Net worth $10 million) openly admitted that FIFA is a “non-profit” organization yet has billions in the bank.. hmm that’s odd.
  • Despite winning 4 terms as President- Sapp has often been dogged by controversy and allegations of corruption and bribery.

Screen Shot 2015-05-27 at 12.28.15 PM
Photo Credit: FIFA President Sapp Blatter

Very Important to know:

The World Cup in 2020 will be in Qatar (the temperature is 50 celsius which translates to 120 degrees!!) That is dangerous and absolutely ridiculous for players, fans. The media said you can’t even play soccer in that weather it’s beyond dangerous… no one will want to go to a location where you could potentially die from heat exhaustion.

Photo Credit: Proof of the Qatar weather. Sweltering hot for the World Cup? Not a logical idea.

FIFA is facing MAJOR allegations of bribery for choosing this location and at the center of FIFA is President Blatter.

This is a great video by John Oliver a British political satirist who uses humor with the blunt truth in the media. It’s a 13 minute long video but you get the gist of it in whole.
( FYI: The video link will not work if you are reading this on email- just go to my blog link to see the video)

John Oliver on FIFA

What do you think of the FIFA now?
Do you trust them?
This will be a huge sports news topic- so be on the look out for the latest on the allegations and conspiracies.
I would love to hear what you think of this- leave comments and share this to your friends– everyone needs to be enlightened on this world wide event.

Lebron James Makes History With Fifth Consecutive NBA Finals Appearance

By: Kiersten Ehr

He did it again people. The rockstar some call- one of the many famous faces of the NBA (National Basketball Association) has proven his talent in the playoffs.

  • Whether you are a fan of Lebron or you are tired of seeing him in the media- get used to it. He is a well talented player in his prime. Remember Michael Jordan in the 90’s with 6x Championships, and a 6x Finals MVP? Well Lebron is looking for his chance to add to his success. He is no where close to surpassing Jordan, but he’s still only 30 years old. After last year in the finals with the San Antonio Spurs victory- he is looking for his next ring.
    Lebron James:
  • Drafted right out of high school– 2003/ Round 1/ Pick 1st overall to the Cavaliers
  • NBA Champion (20122013)
  • NBA Finals MVP (20122013)

The Cleveland Cavaliers won 118-88 over the Atlanta Hawks Tuesday- LeBron James and James Jones will become the 1st players since the 1960s Celtics to make five straight Finals appearances.  —history right here—-

The Cavaliers vs. Atlanta Hawks was a four-game sweep to win the Eastern Conference Finals. This wasn’t a surprise to most NBA fans and Sports Analysts, ex. Charles Barkley…

Fact: James and Jones were members of the Miami Heat franchise when they made four straight Finals appearances from 2011 through 2014, winning two, The duo then signed with Cleveland in the off-season- James returning to his first team he was drafted with in his career. This season the Miami Heat did not make the NBA playoffs (37-35 record).

Fact: This is Cleveland’s first NBA Finals trip since 2007.

Stat: In 13 postseason games this year, James has averaged 27.9 points, 10.5 rebounds and 8.4 assists. Jones has averaged 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds.

The NBA Finals will start once the Western Conference finals finishes between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors. Game 5 is tonight at 8:00 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Chelsea F.C. (Football Club) fans will forever remember the date 5-24-15.

Yesterday was a brilliant day for Chelsea soccer/football fans as the blues won the title and the astounding recognition for worldwide fandom (even for Houston Texan star J.J. Watt).

Chelsea finished the season remarkably, coming from behind to beat Sunderland 3-1 at Stamford Bridge UK. They also finished as the only team across all four divisions not to face a home league defeat.

(Pictured) Joshua Bonnington proudly wearing his #1 team Chelsea F.C. hoodie.
I was lucky enough to have been taught the soccer basics by a lovely English family the Bonningtons this past year as their family showed and expressed a deep passion for the Chelsea F.C. franchise. As a Green Bay Packer American Football fan, I immediately knew what it felt like to completely devote time and energy into a team. I’m blessed to have watched the astounding historical games Chelsea pulled off this year.

Get To Know Chelsea:

Doubles(Two titles in a season)

Soccer/football is the #1 sport in the world for a reason. After a year of watching the Premier League matches… I have grown to love this amazing sport. For anyone who is a one sport kind of fan- I inspire you to try something new and try a brand new sport of some kind– you’ll be amazed it’s worth a shot.

Stamford Bridge. Photo Credit: Stuart Bonnington
Quote from an avid Chelsea fan after the win yesterday:
“What a fabulous day! Chelsea collected their 4th Premier League Trophy in front of a jubilant Stamford Bridge. If there is anything I have missed living here in Texas are these days, singing my heart out in the Shed End cheering on my heroes. Saying goodbye to Didier Drogba was always going to be poignant. Have to love the way he was carried off on the shoulders of his team mates. How they love The Drog at the Bridge. How fitting also that John Terry collected the trophy having played every second of every match at the age of 34. He still has at least one, maybe two really good seasons ahead of him. Well done The Blues. A fabulous season leading from start to finish.” – Stuart Bonnington

And I think because of the passion of every English player and every English supporter, and every English journalist for the game, most of the game is played with passion, love for football and instinct, but in football you also have to think.

Meet The Milwaukee Brewers New Manager Craig Counsell: The Man With An Incredible Baseball Background

By: Kiersten Ehr

a great baseball story:

Since I was a little girl around the years of 2004, 2007-2011 Craig Counsell played for TobyMac 499the Milwaukee Brewers with a humble smile and carried a rare personality trait even when his team was losing. In the dug-outs I would watch Craig on the t.v. cheer on his teammates and picked them back up with confidence (the playoffs with Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun was something to see- the “Brew Crew” were the dream team to me).

My Family Connection Tied To Craig Counsell:

My grandfather “Boppa”

The story begins in Milwaukee, Wisconsin–you know that state known for the “best” cheese and the legendary Green Bay Packers- well in a little town of Whitefish Bay on the lake front of Lake Michigan my dad played in softball intramural with Craig Counsell’s dad John Counsell in 1988-1989 in the fields behind the Whitefish Bay high school where Craig Counsell grew up.

My grandfather, Dick Ehr, also played golf with John Counsell for the annual Notre Dame alumni meetings in Milwaukee. My grandfather I call “Boppa” would brag to me “oh yeah I played golf with Craig Counsell’s dad”. It was pretty awesome as a little girl to hear that.

John Counsell and Craig Counsell are both Notre Dame graduates and get this— they both were the captains on the baseball team when they were in school– This is a first in Notre Dame history— never has a father and son been the captains for the baseball team.

Father like son… I think yes.

Craig Counsell Stats at Notre Dame
  • Led the Irish baseball team to national recognition in the early 1990’s
  • Four-year career including a .306 batting average
  • 204 runs scored
  • 166 RBI
  • 50 doubles
  • Twice as many walks (166, still most in the ND record book) as strikeouts (82)
  • MVP as a senior
  • 14 professional draft picks
  • Named to the 1992 NCAA all-Atlantic Regional team, after captaining the Irish to within a game of the College World Series

The famous Craig Counsell baseball stance:
If you have never seen Craig bat then look at these pictures. It is ridiculously awesome at how he pulled this off while making great hits.

As a Native Texan Brewer fan I couldn’t be more excited for Craig Counsell and the Milwaukee Brewers franchise. The moment I turned on ESPN and found out he was the new face of the team leadership I knew that the team was in good hands. A big congratulations to Craig Counsell on his continuing career in baseball.

Stephen Curry’s Ridiculously Cute Daughter Has A Moment Of Fame During His Press Conference

By: Kiersten Ehr

It’s rare to find media stories that feature athletes’ kids,  but after reading this and watching the video below you will smile with joy.

Tuesday night May 19th, the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry entered a post-game press conference and faced the media after his 110-106 victory over the Houston Rockets for Game 1 in the Western Conference finals. He also brought a little surprise with him…

Curry’s two-year old daughter Riley Curry had a moment of fame as she sat on her daddy’s lap and under the media table making ridiculously cute comments such as daddy you’re being “too loud”, “be quiet.”

(If you are reading my blog post through email the Youtube video does not appear- I suggest going to my blog through my website or through an app to see it)

Watch this video and try not to smile… it’s impossible… it’s just too good. Now this is good t.v. at its best.

Lights, camera, action.

Who would have guessed that the DC comic book superhero Batman would get Major League Baseball attention on a live broadcasted game.

Well turns out the Houston Astros pitcher made his first major league start and wanted to roll out his sleek Batman cleats for the world to see. Not only did he have a career start pitching for the hyped Astros, he gave himself social media attention with #batmancleats hashtags.

Houston Rockets Fans Share Their Thoughts On The Historic Win For Clutch City

By: Kiersten Ehr

Gist of it:

Today the Houston Rockets beat the Los Angeles Clippers 113-100 at the Toyota Center in Houston in front of thousands of energetic Clutch City fans (for people who do not know what Clutch City refers to it is the nickname for the Rockets in 1994-1995 for winning Championships back to back).
I asked a few of my Rockets friends to share their thoughts on the epic win- here is their story. I hope you enjoy learning more about the Rockets.

“The crowd is great at the Toyota Center, a lot of positive energy. James Harden is my favorite because he’s the MVP (most valuable player) no matter what the world says. He’s really connected with the fans. Every national analyst is biased against them, that’s why people think we’re the underdogs. We as fans enjoy that social media etc. they don’t believe in us and it just gives us more reason to prove them wrong.”

“This series has been an amazing roller coaster ride. Everybody believed that the Clippers were going to win this series especially with them being 3-1, but my Rockets showed heart and determination and showed the world that ‘Clutch City’ is back.”

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of our back to back championships, which was a great time in Houston Sports history. The Rockets back to back championships in 1994, 1995. And after today’s win, we finally feel a few steps closer to bringing back another championship to Houston. We are the 4th team in NBA history to come back from almost elimination.”

“This was a team that was thought to have no heart and after back to back blowouts in Games 3 and 4. But when they could’ve gone down quietly, they came together as a team. As cliche as it sounds, it literally took every player on the team to be just the ninth team in the NBA history to come back from down 3-1 in the series. Whether it was Ariza knocking down three after three, Priginoni (who was too old) creating havoc on the defense and creating offense with his hustle, Jason Terry (who’s washed up) and his defense on CP3 (Chris Paul), Corey Brewer bringing hustle and energy, or Josh Smith transforming his game after coming to Houston and becoming a do-everything guy who orchestrated their entire comeback in Game 6 and was key again in Game 7. Every player who stepped on the floor contributed to this historic comeback. It was beautiful to watch.”
– Landon Kuhlmann

What’s Next:

The Houston Rockets will enjoy this victory as well as the loyal fans– but they will have to play at the Golden State Warriors in Oakland, California on Tuesday, May 19th at 9:00 p.m. CT on ESPN for Game 1 in the final four round.

Social Media Reacts to Tom Brady’s Suspension

Quarterback for the New England Patriots, Tom Brady has been suspended for four of the 2015 NFL regular season football games due to his involvement with the Deflategate controversy. The Wells Report reached a conclusion that  the quarterback was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities (Patriots won Super Bowl in February vs. Seattle Seahawks).

What is the Deflategate?

How this will effect the Patriots:

  • Patriots fined $1 million
  • Will forfeit a first-round pick in 2016 and a fourth-round pick in 2017
  • Brady will not play in 4 games with no pay
