The residents at the healthcare center were all smiles as the football players danced with them and gave the women roses.

Texas State football player Gabe Schrade organized this event to make a difference for others who might be alone on Valentine’s Day at the healthcare center.

“We organized this to give back to the elderly and people in the nursing home. We wanted to dance with them and give them a fantastic Valentine’s Day,” said Schrade.

Jamie Vanostrom, a resident at the San Marcos Rehabilitation and Health Care center, said that people in nursing homes are often forgotten and that she was very glad the football players came to see them. Vanostrom said, “It made our day.”

Rena Herrera, a nurse at the center, said that it was nice having the Texas State football players volunteer.

“We felt the emotion from all of their years through their hands when we danced.
It was really special not only for them but for us as well.  We definitely got more than we probably gave,” said Schrade.

“I had a great time. This brightened my day, just talking to older people about where they are from and what they like to do. It touched my heart a little bit,” said Cody Casey, a Texas State football player.

The Texas State football players may have delivered Valentines but their hearts were touched today by residents at the San Marcos Rehabilitation and HealthCare Center.
