The Texas State football team, currently at a 1-2 record, will be up against the 2-0 University of Houston Cougars this Saturday, September 26th.

The Bobcats are coming off a blistering 56-50 loss at home versus Southern Miss this past weekend during the first Texas State #TXSTWhiteOut. Houston is entering this matchup after a bye week which gave the Cougars extra prep time after the Cougars won 34-31 at Louisville two weeks ago.

Bobcat Spotlight:

Junior quarterback Tyler Jones was named The Sun Belt Conference SBC Offensive Student Athlete of the Week after Jones had an astonishing career game this past weekend. Even with the devastating loss at home, Jones accumulated 470 yards in total offense and helped drive five touchdowns against Southern Miss in front of thousands of Bobcats fans.

Sneak Preview To My Interview With TXST Softball Player Courtney Harris

By: Kiersten Ehr
KTSW sports reporter

{This is a sneak preview to my interview with the senior softball player Courtney Harris. The full length interview will be on the KTSW website within this week- be sure to follow twitter at @KTSWSports & @KTSW_899}

From the Round Rock High School Dragon Softball field to the Bobcat Softball Complex in San Marcos, Courtney Harris has been a familiar part of softball in central Texas for years. In her senior season as the Texas State third baseman. She has been apart of the Bobcats success this year with the 32-20 record. In Harris’s college career she has had 459 at bats 89 hits and 17 home runs. I was able to sit down with Harris as she shares her story on and off the field.

Harris started following sports after watching her family inspired her to play the game she loves. Growing up Harris had a coach inspire her and encouraged her dreams to pursue playing collegiate softball. Harris mentions how he was able to have such a positive impact on her life.

CH: I have two older brothers and from the time I could walk I was in the stands watching them play sports. That’s how I got into it. I started playing t-ball when I was five and I just played softball ever since. One of my coaches in Arizona coached me for quite a few years, he was one of the best coaches I’ve ever had and you could tell he sincerely wanted us to succeed. He got joy seeing us continue onto the next level and he would do whatever he could to make sure that happened. He would go above and beyond to do what he could to help us reach our goals. He pushed me harder than I thought I ever could because he knew there was more in all of us.

Off the softball field Harris is just like any other college student and likes to catch up on some good t.v. by enjoying some quality time with her Netflix. Harris also likes to keep her sports interests in professional teams in the great state of Texas as she looks up to the tight end Dallas Cowboys Player Jason Witten.

CH: Netflix is like my best friend. I’ve watched One Tree hill, I’ve watched Gossip Girl twice, Pretty Little Liars, Parenthood, Vampire Diaries. The list continues. I’m a Cowboys fan but I’ve always liked Jason Witten. He wasn’t like a huge D1 athlete and just how he portrays himself on and off the field I just really like him a lot.

Here is Courtney’s favorite song ‘All I Need is You’ by the famous Christian Rap singer Lecrae

Courtney Harris is currently enjoying her senior year playing for Texas State Softball at third base. Harris is playing in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament here in San Marcos tonight  at 6:30 p.m vs. No.6 UL Monroe. You can listen to the Texas State Softball game on KTSW 89.9. San Marcos. You can get the rest of my one-on-one interview with Courtney Harris on the KTSW WordPress blog within this week. at http://ktsw.txstate.edu/
