The NFL Welcomes Five New Texas State Bobcats

Bobcat fans watched the NFL Draft in anticipation last weekend hoping to see some Texas State faces inducted to sign with NFL teams. Texas State proudly was represented as five new Bobcats will see the light and fame that the NFL (National Football League) offers. This is a huge praise for the Texas State athletic program as they are seeing national publicity attention. The Bobcats are the rising star in Texas and they are now gaining much deserved respect and will no longer be the underdogs.

Texas State Football players in the 2015 NFL Draft:

1. Craig Mager, CB (Corner back) drafted in the 83rd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft with the San Diego Chargers.
One of two Bobcats invited to the NFL Scouting Combine- became the first Bobcat to play in the 90th Annual East-West Shrine All-Star Game on at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla- .A four-year letterman who started each of the 48 games in his collegiate career – was a 2014 All-Sun Belt Conference Second-Team by a panel of SBC coaches and selected media.

2. David Mayo, Line backer, In the 5th round, 169th overall pick has drafted with the North Carolina Panthers.
(Height 6’2, #2 in the NATION with tackles 154, All American 4th Team, Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year, weight 228)

3. Terrence Franks, RB(Running back) has signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Rams.
In 2014 he played in 12 games, made two starts as a running back, rushed for 712 yards and eight touchdowns on 107 carries, caught 11 passes for 125 yards and three TDss, ranked 10th among among Sun Belt Conference rushing leaders with 59.3 yards per game.

4. Will Johnson, Texas State Kicker, has signed with the Houston Texans.
One of two Bobcats invited to the NFL Scouting Combine( NFL combine is by invitation only- a week long event in February- college football players perform physical and mental tests in front of NFL coaches, general managers, and scouts) named All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team punter by both College Sports Madness and Phil Steele -ranked second among league leaders and ranks 21st nationally with a punting average of 43.8 yards on 65 punts.

5. Mike Orakpo, Texas State LB (Linebacker), has signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
In 2014,  Orakpo played in two games before suffering a season-ending knee injury against Navy. He has earned All-Sun Belt Conference Second-Team honors. In 2013, he tallied 71 tackles to rank fourth among team leaders- led the team with 4.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss of 38 yards and three forced fumbles.
